Mary’s diverse employment experiences, academic successes, and appreciation for cultural diversity have made her a natural fit as the Employment Counsellor for the SJMNRC. While obtaining her Bachelor of Arts at the University of New Brunswick (UNB), Mary concentrated on studying counselling techniques and global issues as part of her psychology and sociology curriculum. To complement her degree, she went on to complete certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language and Human Resources Management. A life-long learner, she also completed a Business and Information Technology Diploma from New Brunswick Community College. Born and raised in Saint John, Mary has been employed with NBCC, UNB and the New Brunswick Department of Education. Within these organizations, Mary spent much of her time promoting NB. She was tasked with responsibilities of both welcoming newcomers to NB and travelling abroad to discuss the Province. |

By helping a Saint John family relocate to Chile in 2007, she had her first positive experience with friendly people of Saint John. Two years later that same family helped Erin and her husband relocate to Saint John, and she already considers the Port City home. Originally from the United States, Erin has lived in Singapore and Chile and has visited many countries in South America, Southeast Asia and Europe. Her life experiences have prepared her to be a great youth program officer, as she understands how to communicate with people from different cultures, and has a passion for seeing young people grow and succeed. In addition to her multicultural background, Erin brings valuable skills to the MNRC including a bachelor’s degree in social work from James Madison University in Virginia and several years teaching English as a second language and running her own business in Chile. Based on her personal experience adjusting to Chilean and Singaporean life, Erin works to help newcomer youth adjust to their new Canadian home.
